NDPoliProf.com is the personal and professional site of Mark L. Johnson, Instructor of Political Science and History at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead, Minnesota. The primary purpose of the site is to provide datasets and academic studies of North Dakota elections and state and local government, with emphasis on the North Dakota Legislature. All data and studies are provided at no charge to the general public and the academic community; however, all content remains the exclusive intellectual property of Mark L. Johnson. Any reproduction or use of the materials on this site must be attributed to the author. All material on this site, unless otherwise indicated on the title page of the paper or section, should be treated as a working paper, and has not been subject to peer review, academic conference presentation, or publication.
Johnson has taught at MState since 2003. Prior to then, he served as Chief Clerk in the North Dakota House of Representatives, and spent two years in the Washington, DC area as a research analyst on state legislative policy issues. He has been a candidate for political office in North Dakota on three occasions (Municipal Judge, State Senator, and School Board member), and has served in various leadership positions for one of the major political party organizations in the state (as District Chairman, Member and Chair of the Rules Committee, and State Coordinator of the Presidential Caucuses).
Johnson holds a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of North Dakota, where he studied under Ron Pynn and Ted Pedeliski. He holds a Masters and completed all of the non-dissertation requirements for a Doctorate in Political Science from Louisiana State University, where he studied with Ellis Sandoz and Jim Stoner. In addition to MState, he has previously taught at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Northland Community and Technical College (East Grand Forks), Alexandria (MN) Technical College, UND, and LSU.
